Jason's first day of school and soccer player pose

On our own!

Hi all,

Sorry it's been so long since an update. Blogger wasn't working when I had time. Heather is away for work so J and I are on our own tonight. He is less than impressed with this so I am tired and probably can't do justice to how our little boy continues to grow, change and mature.

He is also still funny:

- When I sat on Heather's lap at breakfast (don't ask), he shouted, "Noooo now there's a big Mama there!".

- We took a spin to the local park with his go-kart. Like a scene from a movie, all the little boys gatehred around and admired Jason's machine. Some even got test drives. Since an older boy (maybe 7) had earlier called it a baby bike, Jason felt quite good about the muscle car type admiration he got. He was overheard to say" see it's not a baby bike".

- He plays soccer with the grizzlies on Saturdays and even has a team shirt.

- Our yoga class is great. Jason can "Om" with the best of them. It probably helps that Amanda, yoga goddess teacher is pretty and kind with long blonde locks. He is in luv! He did jump on me during meditation again.

ANyway I gotta go to bed - who knows what tomorrow will bring??!!

Jason's first day of school

Hi all,

Jason went ot his first day of school today...okay well it was pre-school but the same thing to him. He did really well. He packed up his back pack and we walked to the Hilson school behind us. Our plan is to start slowing integrating him into the program over the fall. In general, he liked it although was a little stressed. He shunned the trucks, blocks and train in favour of high heeled play shoes (pink) and a tiara and at time , a pink feather boa. He really has flair. The daycare has a huge outdoor space so he got lots of trike time. I have mixed feelings about the whole thing but do think it's a good spot. Tomorrow I leave him for about two hours (gulp!).

He continues to grow and expand his play. We are placing a major emphasis on construction, hoping to avoid guns, military play etc.. So his skills in organizing construction play is growing and growing...We got a major lego haul over the weekend and he is busily loading people in and out of trucks and cars. Mighty Machines is a major influence and someday we hope to get the DVD set! After daycare today, I also think we need ot get some more dress up and imaginary play items. He has also learned how to throw a frisbee. Today he packed up all of his instruments (after making a list) to go on a band tour.

Jason and I went to our first yoga class yesterday...yes it is really really cute. You should see him do tree pose. I am getting something out of it too depsite being jumped on during meditation. Last night I hosted the local municipal candidate for a coffee party here. Jason really enjoyed "the party" and made off with about 6 pieces of olive bread, four gingersnaps and many crackers. He also joined us in the living room for some discussion.

We went to Headstart on Monday which as always was wonderful.

And oh yes, this past weekend - Chris and I completed our 10 km race with good times, chris at 1 hour and me at 68 minutes. hooray!

I hear my young one calling - gotta go.

Jason and the ABCs

I am rapidly trying to clean up the house as I am not sure Jason is going to nap today. I am having a proud Mama moment (of which there are many) because as I tuned into Jason's room on the monitor, I hear him reading his ABC book to himself: "M...mmmmm...M is for monkey (the picture shown)...and Mama!" or "B...birds...baby birds...2 B words". And in case that I didn't think the time spent playing Elmo's rhyming game on the Internet wasn't useful and only a way for me to drink coffee in the mornings:" S for star...rhymes with car...and pan". Oops oh well the general idea is there.

Jason's surgery went well yesterday. He is a very brave little boy, who took the doctor's hand and walked off into the operating room. He slept most of yesterday (and last night thank goodness) and seems really good today.

Hi all,

I am sorry I am so far behind in "blogging". Mostly, it has been because of my single minded obsession about painting the front deck and garage door before the end of the month when it will be too cold. I will post some proud pictures once the project is finished.

I am sure that I am missing some good Jason stories and sayings but here are a few...

- "Mama are you sometimes a woman when you are my Mama?"

- We went for a wonderful walk last Friday at Mud Lake. We saw a giant snapping turtle, other turtles, frogs, an owl, etc.. At the lookout, our friend Earl was pointing out ducks, herons and geese and apparently Jason was in the spirit of nature watching because he said"Yes, and over there are lions and tigers!"

- On Saturday we went to the Akwesasne pow wow near Cornwall which was great. We did get Jason to watch some dancing and he and I did one of the inter tribal dance. He was also impressed with the play structure at the arena that was completely over run with kids and fell quite in love with an 8 year old smoke dancer.

- Jason also had an industrious weekend and made muffins and pizza dough with Mom. He also helped tear off a couple of steps on the front porch project. Yesterday, while helping me plant bulbs, something reminded him of this project and he started going at the (newly painted) porch with his little red shovel saying, "I am going to wreck the deck!"

- We hvae somewhat of a routine back but the witching hour has moved to between 11 am and Noon. On Monday he missed lunch and stories and went straight to bed, yesterday he missed stories but today he made it through both despite the sobbing all the way home from the library.
Tomorrow is Jason's operation to have his ear tubes removed so we will all be hanging out and eating jello.

Fishing!

September starts...

Hi all,

Checking in after a few days away. Last weekend we went to the Eastern Townships, near Magog, to visit my Aunt Raymonde and Uncle Romeo. It was a great chance to catch up with them, Melanie and little Xavier, Francois and his family. We had a long drive down in and through and then with Montreal Friday traffic on a long weekend. It us 5 hours to get there but only 3.5 on the way back, which helps explain why Heather thought it was an 8 hour drive and I thought it was 3. With Montreal traffic, it really could be either. Of course, many people got to and from Magog and Ottawa and points in between much faster than us. We actually got passed on the inside on an on ramp!

The cottage is on a lake that is very nice but that we couldn't swim in due to algae. As Heather nodded and smiled through this explanation I thought she understood. I watched her let Jason splash around off the dock and thought it uncharacteristically risk taking of her but it wa sonly on Day 2 that we clarified that the water issue was not just around certain times of the day but in fact all day. I also washed my hair in the algae and so far no one is worse for the experience. While we were there, we also went to the Broome fair. I am sure Jason thought it was a little too loud and full of cows until the tractor parade that really won him over.

We hurried back on Monday because Nana was here awaiting us. We said goodbye this morning but Jason really enjoyed their visit and they got lots of play time as I took off to run errands.

Today Jason and I survived 3 full on tantrums including a particularly "fun"one leaving the park. But despite some passionate responses to life today (e.g. when I turned off the tv) Jason had a great day helping me do errands, including opening his first bank account. He is very proud of his passbook with of course absolutely no comprehension of what it is, but he does look cute studying his bank balance.
