Jason's first Christmas concert

Jason had his first Christmas concert tonight at pre-school. We weren’t sure he was going to participate. Yesterday we got a call from the daycare that his ear was oozing and he was hitting children and could we come pick him up. “Got a call” is a strong expression for two mommies who forgot the cellphone and did discuss in the car on the way to a restaurant for lunch whether or not one really had to be contactable at all times for the daycare (answer is yes, you do). Anyway we kept him home today (his eardrum has probably perforated so he is much better spririts).

He woke up from nap in good spirits and we were off. He did very well – walked in with his class (they were dressed in reindeer hats) and looked very cute on stage. I wouldn’t say he exactly participated, except to be that kid who picks his nose on stage. But he didn’t cry or freak out and so we were pleased. (and poor kid – who doesn’t put their kid in red and green for a Christmas concert??!! Worse yet – why such big clothes Mama? "The look" was all contingent on him keeping his shirt tucked in…which of course he didn’t).

After that we headed off for Xmas craft night at Inuit Headstart. Jason also enjoyed himself there but wondered where Santa was. Also, Jason has had two cookies and cake in one night which is a big deal for him. Luckily he balanced all that sugar off with some muktuk (raw beluga whale blubber).

Not (quite) double the work

I really thought that I would get this blog updated on a regular basis! Ah, how the mighty have fallen. We don’t find having two children is double the work; it’s really not – our lives have been organized around having a small child and being parents for a while. But it definitely often rises from say an average of 1.6 to 1.8 or 1.9 on a fairly frequent basis, and thus, that is the end of blogging.

You should see us try and get out of the door for an average family Sunday morning. It takes a lot to get this family moving and out the door. For the two adults to shower, pack up supplies (food, bottle, spare clothes, whatever is required for the event that we are attending); wrestle two reluctant children into snowsuits, etc. etc….well a good 1.5 hours passes quite quickly!

We did have a great day last Saturday. Sadly, for Jason it started with a flu bug and some power puking followed by a comatose state. However, once he roused himself, we had a lot of fun. Heather went through 3 pairs of pajamas. Keira and I did a popsicle run. Jason was tired enough that he was cuddly and the “big brother angst” edge was rubbed off. He even watched his first feature film (“Cars”). He also did some of his favourite activity – breakdancing! He is really quite good. He also likes to talk about his favourite body part a lot – his “thumb toe”(big toe)!

Keira continues to delight us. We just took her to Heather’s work party. She was in a lovely party dress that would not have passed the Grandma test for softness but nonetheless looked great. She was totally charming and into being at a party. She practiced her waving, did a lot of bouncing and smiling and even tried watermelon.

Anyway this is actually procrastination from other pressing chores (some things never change)…Lisa
