Visits with Santa

SO after a cynical start on our part, the Gass-Lachances are all Santa all the time, and even braved the Carlingwood Mall for a visit with Jolly Old St Nick. My most loveable Grinch Heather even admitted that it was fun! The kids waited in line quite patiently. When it was their turn, Jason took Keira’s hand and they walked over and hopped into the big chair. Jason threw a sweaty zip lock bag with two muffins in it in Santa’s direction and told him “ Here’s a snack for you up north. This one is for Mrs. Santa. This is my sister Keira and I’m Jason”. And with that charming start, my kids were definitely Santa’s favorite. They talked, behaved, smiled for the pictures, and said “thank you and merry Christmas” for the candy canes.

Jason had already asked me about Santa’s reindeer which I said were in the parking lot. As we crossed aforementioned parking lot on the way to the library, Jason said, “I don’t see them.” I explained that they were shy of people. A couple of minutes later Jason said, I saw Rudolph. I saw his nose. It was glowing!”.

I can’t believe that our original intent as parents was going to be to skip the Santa thing. Why deny us this fun!!

On other fronts, Jason and I have been talking about how much we love each other. It started with Arctic animals: “I love you as much as an aiviq (walrus).” “ I love you as much as a nanuq (polar bear)”. It has gotten much more advanced and Jason said yesterday, “ I love you as much as the Grinch is grinchy…”

Catching up

As someone recently noted, this blog hasn’t been updated in awhile….

We had a great long weekend visit with Gary aka Grandpa and Iris

Later in November, we went to visit to Maria in Kingston. The kids loved being at Maria’s place and pretty much took over. On Saturday, we had a full day – market, breakfast out, bee farm, alpaca farm, hockey, exhaustion. Drive home.

We celebrated Keira’s adoption day – one year!

We are now officially in the lead up to Christmas. We had a great weekend visit with Gran and Grandad.

- Jason wrote his first letter to Santa with Grandad: “Santa - Remote control truck – thanks”

- - He asked Heather “Is Santa real?” – Heather said “Do you want him to be real?” “YEAH!”

- Some concern about cutting down a tree- “But why?!” and then his eyes lit up when we did!

- We even watched Charlie Brown’s Christmas and he is acting it out with the megaphone, dancing the Snoopy dance and playing Schroeder’s piano.

- Keira LOVES Santa “Ho ho ho”!!
