February

We have just had a lovely weekend visit from Nana. When Jason found out that Nana was traveling home by plane, he said "but I can't reach her up there..."

One of our favourite folk singers has a song called “February” that talks about February lasting so long it went into March. I think for us we would write a similar song about January. How can one cold, snowy month seem so long?

We have of course been making the best of it. The kids are great. Keira has started speaking in two-word combinations: “Jay’s shoes”, Mama’s feet” etc.

Sometime she seems to forget that she can use more than one word and corrects herself: “Banana…Jay’s banana”. She ahs started recognizing colours like “Blue”. Right now everything is “blue”, blue is “blue”, purple is “blue”, red is…well you can guess She has also started counting: “One, two, two, two, two, nine”. Jason is working hard at introducing “three”.

She tries to sing the ABC song and also doing really well at singing other songs such as “You are my sunshine”.

Jason is also doing well. Our friend Lynda visited his class this month as part of their Arctic unit. She talked about Inuit culture, drummed and sang. Jason drummed a whole song with her. I was extremely proud. Jason is back coming to music class full time which is lots of fun. He and Keira put a lot of energy and enthusiasm into a music class.

We have taken the kids skating a couple of times (after ignoring winter for January, we decided to engage on the first weekend in February). They both did very well and enjoyed themselves. Jason was cautious but confident.

Keira just started running with her bob skates and didn’t want to stop:

“More hockey, hockey, hockey”.
